Candace Shaw for Peterborough – Kawartha Minister of Parliament

Hi Friends,

I’m the Peterborough – Kawartha NDP candidate for the 2019 Federal election, a challenging and exciting opportunity, and I’m honoured to be part of this exciting team.  If you’d like to support my campaign by requesting a lawn sign, volunteering, or making a financial contribution, you can visit candaceshaw.ndp.ca

You don’t have to live in our riding to make a donation – you can donate up to $1,600 to candidates, but you can break that up any way you like between candidates.  And of course, even a small donation – $5 or $25 – makes a huge difference to our campaign. We can’t do it without you!

I’m doing this because I care deeply about issues like the climate crisis, a just transition to a green economy, fair wages, universal pharmacare and extended medical coverage for everyone, and affordable housing – issues that affect all Canadians, and that the NDP have a great plan to address.  If you’d like to read the platform, which in my opinion is a terrific start, you can visit the NDP platform online.

NDP Candidate Card 2019My family have been in the Peterborough area for generations – I grew up in Keene, moved to Peterborough for university, and lived and worked in town for years until making the move to Toronto for work in 2013.  I’ve always worked and fought for a more just, equal society, both at the grassroots level (restructuring and paying artists fairly at arts organizations like the Peterborough Folk Festival and Artsweek Peterborough), and nationally, with the not-for-profit advocacy organization Secret Frequency, which I founded in 2014.

I pride myself on a long history of working within arts and culture to bring projects in on time and under budget, and restructuring organizations to make them work better and better serve the community.  During my time at the Distillery District, I grew the events department to more than 170 annual event days in 2018, up from 35 in 2013, and increased profits every year, bringing in twice the budgeted revenue in 2018.

If you’d like to learn more about my background, you can visit my Resume online. Or if you’re just here to get a great Pumpkin Pie recipe, you can still visit my Recipes page!

Thank you so much for your support – the overwhelming wave of excited and supportive messages means the world to me.  I’m standing up for you, and I can’t do it without you!
