Morocco Day 1 – Casablanca to Rabat

Flight in to Mohammed V International – waited in line at Customs for 1.5 hours, because we’d arrived just before the Libyan soccer team, who were playing in the semi-finals of (???) against Morocco, so the Customs agents slow-rolled them, which delayed us.

When I finally got to the Customs Agent, I greeted him in Arabic and English, and he looked pleased/surprised and asked ‘Do you speak Arabic?!’ “Just three words!” I replied, and he laughed & stamped my pass.

At the train station, I asked a woman for assistance, and she corrected my pronunciation of Rabat and made sure I got on the right train and knew where to transfer.

At the train station at Ain Sebha, as I got off to transfer tot he train to Rabat, I heard the Muezzin for the first time, and saw a small room off of the platform where people were doing their prayers.

I’d landed in Casablanca at 3pm, and by 8:20pm I was settling in to my room at Hotel Central in Rabat – chosen mainly because it was close to the train station, so it was easy to find even in my jetlagged state.
